FOWS

The Friends of Wellington Station began as an informal voluntary group co-ordinated by Fay Easton, who now works for West Midlands Rail. In late 2019 the group was formalised, with a committee, officers, a constitution and, most important – a bank account. In the early days we concentrated on litter picking, the establishment of various attractive planters on the platforms, the transformation of an overgrown area near the car park access into a lovely lavender terrace, and the first attempts to tidy up the overgrown and unused Platform 3, designated as a ‘Secret Garden”.

Once the grant from West Midlands Train Community Fund became available, the focus switched to new directions signs, maps, leaflets to promote all the brilliant walking routes based on Wellington, and accessible from the station. At the same time, ambitious plans were put in place for the Secret Garden, and after some lengthy negotiations, patient project management by Telford & Wrekin Council, at last the hard landscaping and gabion seatings were in place in 2022.
