Secret Garden

The Secret Garden came from an idea by Fay Easton, now of West Midland Railway, and was intended to clear and revive a disused platform at Wellington Railway Station which was a mass of brambles, buddleia and weeds. The name came from a Harry Potter reference and the aim was to create a quiet space with seating, wild flowers, bee hives, free herbs and vegetables – somewhere for town residents and travellers to find some peace and quiet and enjoy a small patch of nature.

Over the time, the original plans were of necessity changed and adapted according to what was possible, allowed, conformed to necessary safety standars – and was within what the Friends of Wellington Station (FOWS) could afford and could physically achieve.

A huge boost to the plans came in the form of a £45k+ grant from West Midland Railway and the “Wellington Ways” project began to be realised, with Telford & Wrekin Council generously agreeing to both handle the actual funds and act as project management.
