Funds
The Friends of Wellington Station as a group has been fortunate to receive funding from a variety of sources, but in recent years the main source of funds has been a major grant from West Midland Railways, used for our “Wellington Ways’ project. Before that the group had received a private donation of £100 and a total of £600 courtesy of local councillors frm Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in our Community Fund. This meant we were able to establish ourselves as a voluntary group, purchase public liability insurance, set up the bank account and work on the lavender terrace, planters and continue litter picking, while planning for “Wellington Ways”.
During 2020 there was little or no progress for obvious reasons, but from early 2021 we were able to go ahead with spending the £45,000 CCIF grant on the Secret Garden, external taps, maps and leaflets detailing walking and cycling routes based on Wellington and accessible from the station (the “Ways) and work on improving the access from the bus station via imperfect steps.
Extra funds have been received from the council’s Pride fund, an amazing fundraising effort by Registered Adopter Jon Aston completing the TelfordT5050 Trail, and a GoFundMe page. We have also received more private donations (and plants) and two members have continued to sell jigsaws and jams for petty cash.
